When Season 3 arrived to Call of Duty: Warzone, bringing with it new weapons, a new operator, vehicle skins and more, the excitement regarding that new content was drowned out by severe dissatisfaction over something that was removed.
The new Quads mode replaced the original Trios - but now it's back.
Following a fan outcry of epic proportions, centered at the Warzone Subreddit, Activision has made the original Battle Royale mode featuring teams of three available again, alongside the new Quads and the Solos mode added a while ago. Infinity Ward tweeted regarding the playlist update earlier today.
🚨A playlist update is rolling out now across all platforms! We’ve added BR Trios back into #Warzone!🚨

Many players were surprised when they saw that Trios was outright removed after the Season 3 update, since none of the press releases from Activision or Infinity Ward indicated this would happen. Quads was always billed as an additional new mode being added to the game instead of it replacing the original setup.
The original reasoning behind having just two modes at any given time in rotation was to avoid fracturing the community too much, an issue another Battle Royale game had to deal with. After adding several maps and modes, all available at the same time, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds faced long matchmaking times forcing players to wait often. Understandably, Activision wanted to avoid this.
A little too much, though. Warzone sports a playerbase more than large enough to support three Battle Royale modes simultaneously - Plunder modes don't seem to be making to big a dent in the BR players - and Solos, Trios and Quads being available at the same time hasn't produced any noticeable increases in waiting times between matches.
Duos had been rumored to be coming to Call of Duty: Warzone for some time now, and was included in the leaked list of features for Season 3 - most of which ended up being confirmed.
We'll need to wait and see if Duos ends up replacing Quads, or is also added to the growing list of modes to avoid this controversy from happening again. But can Warzone support four BR modes simultaneously? We'll find out later during Season 3.
