The Zombies' community has been quite upset with Treyarch given how they took the "fun" out of Zombies during the 2XP week. During the recent double XP week, players were able to earn a ridiculous amount of XP that resulted in some leveling up all their weapons.
While the community enjoyed it, it was clear that this was not intentional. Treyarch took note of the situation and "fixed" the XP issue. However, players started to notice that they could not get even a single additional weapon level at later rounds due to how slow it got. It was slower than it was originally, and bear in mind, it was still double XP week.
While initially, Treyarch claimed that the XP rate was working as intended, they recently pushed a small patch that fixes the "lower-than-intended" issue. Many took it to social media to convey their concerns, and some even tested the XP in Zombies before the fix.

Josh Torres (a.k.a FoxHoundFPS), Treyarch's community manager, replied to the user u/MaharaDTD (on Reddit), where he published his test results. Torres confirmed that the XP was indeed lower than expected, and a fix was underway.
On November 30, 2020, a small patch was pushed that fixed the Zombies' XP rate and overall weapon XP rate across both Multiplayer and Zombies. Below are the patch notes.
- Increased Weapon XP earn rates for both Multiplayer and Zombies.
- Addressed an issue that was causing lower-than-targeted Weapon XP in solo matches and in later rounds.
- Addressed an issue where the Napalm Burst Ammo Mod wasn't consistently awarding Weapon XP when equipped.
- Nuketown '84: Closed an out-of-bounds gap that allowed players to stay alive outside of the playable space.
Many are requesting another double XP week as they couldn't utilize it due to the aforementioned issue lasting until the very end of the last one. Treyarch tweeted that there will be many more double XP events throughout December, which is an excellent way to compensate for the recent fiasco.
We’ve also addressed an issue in Zombies that was causing lower-than-targeted Weapon XP earn rates in solo matches and in later rounds.
To thank everyone for their patience, we’re planning additional 2X Weapon XP events in December! We’ll keep you posted on dates and times.
